Where you are from and where you are currently based:

I'm from Southern California and based in Simi Valley... for now. :)

How did you get your DJ name?

I wanted a name that has a fusion with my first name, Joe. The word "mojo" from the movie Austin Powers resonated with me so I chose that!

First gig as a DJ:

My first gig was at a clothing store off of Melrose in Los Angeles that I found on Craigslist! It was a grand opening, and I played some chill house vibes. It was a great experience and instead of money, they compensated me with a really cool shirt!

Your definition of a DJ:

Great question! I believe a DJ is someone who manipulates music creatively to set a certain mood and energy for themselves or for other people.

HIS ADVICE:

What do you wish more DJs would begin doing or do more of in 2022?

I wish that DJs would challenge themselves to become better and value themselves more as an artist instead of as a commodity.

Pre-gig rituals or practices:

I always like to have a good meal before I head out for an event. I also do my vocal warmups and improv exercises to help me be present and think on my feet.

Advice to give our DJ readers:

To keep it at a few things and in general, 1) Know that it is OK to ask for help; 2) Hire a mentor or coach, specifically someone who has overcome your exact problem; and 3) Take care of yourself mentally, physically, and spiritually.
